Industrial chic

Industrial chic is a popular decorating style which is being interpreted as an eclectic mix for both residential and commercial interiors

The style of Industrial chic can include:

  •  exposed brickwork
  •  pipes or structural elements on display
  •  bold graphics
  •  large format text or numbers
  •  furniture made from factory items & recycled materials
  •  industrial style over sized light fittings

This style is often a result of using items in a new way [re purpose] or making a feature of something which traditionally was a machinery component or salvaged from an industrial process

Using items of this nature high lights the natural 'patina' and makes a feature of the wear & tear from years of usage

The combination of using 're purpose' materials and industrial items creates a look that is 'edgy with a hint of nostalga'

Industrial chic has an urban appearance  which is enhanced with accessories and details and the pairing of industrial materials together with recycled timber usually softens the look and adds warmth

pop up design

Ever heard the term Pop up design?... seems to be a new design term used today to describe a particular type of design........but exactly what type of design is Pop up design??

I believe it describes a temporary or highly flexible design
Or maybe a mobile design which can be inserted into an existing space or be moved to a variety of locations

Because of its non permanent nature Pop up design can be fun, surprising & visually eye catching

It is usually constructed of light weight, reusable materials which produce some unique results!

Pop up design can be used to give life to vacant or abandoned buildings and is a fantastic method of adding new uses to both indoor & out door spaces

The use of sustainable materials & the adaptive reuse of existing buildings means that Pop up design can be a sustainable design option for Bars, Cafes, Retail and also furniture design
